The "Structural Statistics" system allows users to examine structure-based alignments in greater detail than previously possible. This system is an updated version of the "Query System" presented in the "A Story" manuscript (Gutell et al., 2000). The old "Query System" was limited to the small subset of sequences for which bpseq files had been generated; for the modern "Structural Statistics" system, every sequence in an alignment can be assessed.

For this initial presentation of the "Structural Statistics" system, we use a Bacterial 16S rRNA alignment containing approximately 4,000 sequences.

Nucleotide Statistics

Statistics for 1-4 nucleotides, paired or unpaired, in helices, loops, or at helix-loop junctions.

Hairpin Statistics

Statistics for nucleotides and nucleotide patterns in hairpin loops of various sizes.

Internal Loop Statistics

Statistics for nucleotide patterns in internal loops of various sizes.

Internal Loop Length Statistics

Relationships between the lengths of both sides of each internal loop.
