As a public service, the Gutell Laboratory at the University of Texas at Austin is providing RNA sequence and structure data and information that was collected, analyzed, interpreted, and put into web-based formats that allow for their visualization and downloading.

In recognition of the time and effort invested into this work, we request that the following guidelines be honored:

  1. All data (see 2) used, whether it be for publication or for presentation, must be properly cited as followed. Unless it is explicitly stated, the following reference should be cited:

    Cannone J.J., Subramanian S., Schnare M.N., Collett J.R., D'Souza L.M., Du Y., Feng B., Lin N., Madabusi L.V., MÜller K.M., Pande N., Shang Z., Yu N., and Gutell R.R. (2002). The Comparative RNA Web (CRW) Site: An Online Database of Comparative Sequence and Structure Information for Ribosomal, Intron, and Other RNAs. BioMed Central Bioinformatics, 3:2. [Correction: BioMed Central Bioinformatics. 3:15.]

    Depending on the policy of the journal and the type of data accessed, it might be appropriate to cite the URL for the CRW Site: "http://www.rna.ccbb.utexas.edu/"

  2. "Data," as used here, includes but is not limited to:
    1. The current 16S and 23S rRNA secondary structure models;
    2. Secondary structure diagrams;
    3. Nucleotide frequency tables (for single bases, base pairs, and base triples);
    4. Conservation secondary structure diagrams;
    5. Sequence alignments; and
    6. Interpretations of this data that are discussed at the CRW Site.

  3. The redistribution of the data (see 2) generated for the CRW Site and/or the software that disseminates the information on the CRW Site from another computer is forbidden without express written permission.

  4. Any other use of data obtained from this site is forbidden without express written permission.

  5. The data usage policy for the CRW Site does not apply to external sites that are accessed through the CRW Site. This includes but is not limited to NCBI's Pubmed, GenBank entries, and Taxonomy information.

The Comparative RNA Web Site retains the right to restrict access to the server and data in the event that these guidelines are not honored or if the service is abused.
